ZirChrom®-PBD (USP L49) columns offer today's chromatographer the following advantages:

A reversed-phase like material, but with slightly different selectivity. Stable from pH 1-14.
Not as hydrophobic as typical C18-silica phases, so less organic solvent is required.
Selectivity is modifiable through the addition of a strong Lewis base to the mobile phase such as fluoride, phosphate or hydroxide.
Thermal stability is so high it may be used indefinitely at temperatures up to 150^oC, and is much more stable than new Zorbax^TM phases. These higher temperatures result in lower pressure drops, narrower peaks, very high speed analyses and different selectivity.
